I guess Dru Down's "Pimp of the Year" fell just outside your top ten.
Anyway, very interesting list. A good mix of "Yeah that is great" and "WTF's that?".
Listening to Squarepusher for the first time right now. I can definitely hear their influence. Liking it a lot.

Good info...but I think you may end up getting ripped off if you just go with the first mastering guy you find. Typically these 'quick fix' mastering guru's have a multi-band compressor that simply crush the audio to achieve maximum loudness. Proper mastering services will manually boost frequencies to fill out a mix and THEN bring up levels to a commercial standard, vs just smashing dynamics and making things loud. John Scrip has some fantastic reading on his blog. http://www.massivemastering.com/blog/html/blog_files/My_Mixes_Are_Too_Quiet.php

Good article but one comment - PR that only points to a link where the music can be heard suggests that the publication already has some notion about who the artist is. We could spend all day doing nothing but listening to music we aren't interested in. Time is money and we spend ours careful. A physical CD has a better chance of being listened to.

I cannot thank you enough for this article. Not only is music and producing my biggest passion, and my main goal for a successful life, but I am also currently doing a culminating project on putting out my own C.D. I have searched over countless websites trying to get the information you just provided. A stroke of luck let my "stumble-upon" this today.

Thank You!

Really insightful information...we are in the process of trying to record our music in-house and release a bunch of Singles to get feedback from listener and friends before releasing a full length album. Thanks for the check list. Kudos!!
